Our Youth Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes in Port Angeles and Sequim offer students a great way to learn focus, respect, self-confidence, athletic development and most of all fun.
Our BJJ classes are structured around teaching the fundamentals and philosophy of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and self-defense in a safe and friendly environment. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is arguably the best martial art for kids to start with because it will teach them solid self-defense fundamentals and how to neutralize a physical altercation without causing additional harm. We also include basic techniques from Judo and Wrestling in order to offer a well-rounded education in the grappling arts.
Our core youth BJJ classes are primarily focused on teaching BJJ with a Gi (traditional uniform) which creates a stronger, more technical grappling experience. The use of the BJJ Gi also allows the kids to begin progressing through the youth BJJ belt promotion system. The 5th Element Youth/Teen’s BJJ belt promotion system is in the following order: white, grey, yellow, orange and green. When students reach the age of 16 years old then they are eligible to enter the adult BJJ belt promotion system: white, blue, purple, brown, black.
We are not just interested in teaching kids Jiu-Jitsu skills at 5th Element but also how to become better people within our community. So in order to promote strong character development and effective communication skills the kids can earn life skill stripes on their BJJ belts in addition to the BJJ skill stripes they earn. Life skill stripes can be earned in the following areas: good partner, good helper, good listener and discipline.
Necessary gear equipment for BJJ classes include the BJJ Gi, mouthguard and groin protection for boys and that is all. All necessary equipment can be purchased at 5th Element and most new youth memberships include a FREE BJJ Gi with enrollment.
